Dukes of Savoy castle

Built in the 11th century, the Château des Ducs de Savoie is an ancient fortified castle in the heart of Chambéry. The building was home to the nine princes of the State of Savoy, as well as a number of government departments. Today, you can visit the medieval wing, which houses a permanent exhibition entitled "The castle, Savoy, ten centuries of history". Guided tours are available for a fee, allowing you to visit the courtyard of the château and the Sainte-Chapelle, featuring trompe-l'œil and ancient stained glass windows.

The building is impressive and a fascinating place to visit if you want to find out more about the history of Savoie. Don't miss the huge 6-metre-long model, which shows how Savoy's territories have evolved from the 18th century to the present day. You can also take a stroll through the superb cloister.
