Lake Bourget: between walks and activities

Looking for a place to fully enjoy the great outdoors, between mountains, turquoise waters, and wide open spaces? Lake Bourget ticks all the boxes. Just 50 km from the Hotel Les Bergeronnettes in Champagneux, France's largest natural lake stretches over 18 kilometers and offers a variety of activities for all tastes, in a setting that is simply... spectacular.

Activities for everyone at Lake Bourget

It's impossible to get bored on the shores of this unique natural space. Do you enjoy water activities? You've come to the right place!
Sailing, canoeing, paddleboarding, waterskiing, wakeboarding, rowing... at Lake Bourget, there's something for everyone.
Not to mention the joys of swimming, in water that can reach 28°C in summer. Fishing enthusiasts will not be left out: the depths of Lake Bourget are populated by around thirty species, including Arctic char and whitefish.
For walks, more than 8,000 kilometers of marked trails allow you to explore the landscape, between forests, ridges, and reed beds.
The lake's shores are also home to remarkable biodiversity. The reed beds are true refuges for a rich fauna: swans, European pond turtles, grebes, and more.
To observe them discreetly, head to the Aigrettes Observatory.

Lake Bourget: Breathtaking Panoramas

Several lookout points offer spectacular views of the lake and the surrounding mountains:
  • La Chambotte, above Chindrieux, reveals Hautecombe Abbey and the Savière Canal.
  • The Grumeau lookout, perched at 1,158 m, overlooks the lake and the Bauges massif.
  • Mont Revard, once accessible by cogwheel, is now a popular spot for hikers.
  • The Dent du Chat, a must-see for the more athletic, offers a slightly dizzying finish but a spectacular view upon arrival.

On two wheels along the lake

Lake Bourget can also be explored by bike.
The ViaRhôna, a gentle and accessible route, runs along the banks and crosses the Chautagne. Take a break in Chanaz, a charming canalside village, for a snack by the water.
More seasoned athletes can explore the area's passes, such as Chambotte or Col du Chat, amidst ridges, forests, and sweeping views.
